SCIA Engineer 21 - Super Powered. Super Easy: Revolutionary New Interface for SCIA Engineer 21
Hasselt, Belgium, 6 May 2021 – SCIA, world leading developers of structural design and analysis software, is delighted to announce the launch of SCIA Engineer 21. The latest update of SCIA’s integrated solution represents a giant leap forward in user experience and functionality, which has been achieved by combining a redefined, reimagined and revolutionised interface with the industry’s most powerful structural design and analysis software.
The new ergonomically designed, fully customisable interface boasts unrivalled efficiency gains across all structural engineering workflows having been proven to save structural engineers a huge one hour per day, every day. A true workspace transformation, which can be customised to suit individual’s preferred ways of working.
SCIA Engineer 21’s revolutionary new interface delivers:
Maximised working space (nearly 100% of the screen)
The model now takes centre stage, filling nearly 100% of the screen – making it easy to move around the project and see every key element in one view. The model is also now 50% larger than in previous SCIA Engineer versions and current competitor software, enabling structural engineers to focus on engineering, rather than constantly having to adjust their screen view, a valuable time saving.
Smarter workstations and ergonomic toolbars
No more cluttered menus taking up space, SCIA Engineer 21’s intelligent, clean toolbars display SCIA Engineer’s most frequently used functions all in one place, keeping them accessible at all times. What’s more, personalised toolbars can also be created to house favourite functions within one line of sight.. In addition, SCIA’s elegantly designed smart toolbar allows engineers to have workflow toolbars (e.g. steel and results) open at the same time; ideal for the iterative nature of most structural engineering projects.
Learn on the go with SCIA Spotlight. This game changing innovation puts an intelligent search facility at the heart of the interface. Simply start typing to find any function or command instantly. Spotlight is up to 10 times faster than searching through traditional menu-based interfaces.
Real-time, full customisation
Structural engineers can now own the workspace and do things their way with easy customisation of menus and toolbars as they work. With one mouse click and without interrupting the current action, functions can be drag and dropped on and off a toolbar to suit the engineer, their project or their team (customisations can be shared across teams).
Hilde Sevens, Chief Executive Officer, SCIA, commented: “This is the first of its kind in structural engineering software – a user interface that has been meticulously and ergonomically reimagined and redefined to minimise mouse travel and clicks, saving engineers enormous amounts of time on every single action, whilst at the same time maximising the space for the project. In short, we have put the engineer in complete control of their model. We are confident that we have achieved a phenomenal step change in product design – translating SCIA Engineer into an incredibly easy to use and learn interface, which has the capacity to meet every structural engineer’s needs and give them back one of their most prized commodities – time!” This new version of SCIA Engineer is truly extra-ordinary making it a unique, revolutionary solution in the market
Over the past 40 years SCIA has dedicated significant time to gathering feedback from its users to truly understand and what they need from the software they use to create the buildings of tomorrow. Using that insight, SCIA has invested in innovation to support the development of SCIA Engineer; making it one of the world’s most powerful structural engineering software, capable of handling any size and shape of building - from the simple everyday project to the most complex one offs. In the past, with this unrivalled power and scope came complexity, particularly in the objects-based interface that almost all structural engineering software uses today. However, over the last two years SCIA’s talented UI and UX specialists have spent thousands of hours watching the way engineers work, talking with them and then developing a user interface that works in perfect harmony with them, cutting mouse moves and clicks by over 20% on every action. SCIA Engineer 21 is the future of interface design delivered today, making super powerful software, super easy.
Nele Deckers, Director Product & Design, SCIA, added: “It has been a real privilege to spend so much time working with our talented users to really understand current working practices and future requirements before translating those into what has been delivered today; a phenomenal, new and unique interface for SCIA Engineer 21, which revolutionises the way structural engineers interact with our software. We took on the challenge of making this incredibly powerful software super easy and intuitive to use.The numbers really speak for themselves. We have effectively given engineers back 1 hour of every single day and at the same time cut the time it takes to learn the software by up to 75%.”
