SCIA Engineer 20 - Endless Possibilities. Simply Achieved.

Hasselt, Belgium, 8 September 2020 – SCIA today announces the launch of the SCIA Engineer 20. SCIA continuously invests in R&D and regularly enhances its software with extended and improved functionalities. The latest update of its solution for integrated structural analysis and design, SCIA Engineer 20, brings a comprehensive collection of improvements that will help structural engineers design their concrete and steel structures even faster and more effortlessly than before. These new capabilities help structural engineers save the valuable time and produce a safe, reliable and economical design with a minimum of manual effort. Multi-story buildings, steel halls, prestressed structures, special types of constructions - possibilities are endless ... and simply achieved.

ECONOMICAL AND SIMPLIFIED CONCRETE DESIGN

New automation added to frequent and routine tasks helps save valuable time. SCIA Engineer 20 performs automatic calculation of effective widths for concrete ribs. An optimised design procedure directly determines such amount of reinforcement that satisfies all code-checks and, at the same time, has a high utilization ratio, resulting in a safe and economical design with no material waste.

FAST ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE

The updated, 64-bit, solution for prestressed concrete in SCIA Engineer 20 allows engineers to run a fast and comprehensive analysis of even large and complex prestressed and post-tensioned structures. The integrated, fully and clearly documented, Eurocode checks then ensure that the final design is safe and reliable.

SAFE AND ECONOMICAL STEEL DESIGN WITH CLEAR REPORTING

For a long time, SCIA Engineer performs a safe and economical design of steel structures, not only complying with the latest codes, but also reflecting recommendations of recent research projects. SCIA Engineer 20 extends the reporting capabilities with a single-page summary output and new options for reporting of serviceability limit state calculations.

EFFECTIVE AND SIMPLIFIED COLLABORATION WITH MODELLERS AND DRAFTSMEN

BIM has become an integral part of the contemporary engineering workflow. SCIA Engineers 20 brings new options for sharing of data between SCIA Engineer and Revit or Tekla Structures. Bi-directional exchange of data about reinforcement in concrete elements allows the engineers to e.g. model the initial reinforcement in the modelling software, run code-checks and optimisation in SCIA Engineer and then finalise the drawings back in the CAD program.

In addition, it has become a tradition that every new version of SCIA Engineer presents the top 3 improvements voted for by the members of the SCIA Insiders program.

Nele Deckers, Director Product & Design, says: “With SCIA Engineer 20, we were able to deliver various productivity improvements for the design of both concrete and steel structures. Our concrete design has been improved on a theoretical level by designing rectangular sections with the method used for checks, resulting in an easier to understand reinforcement design. Also for steel a one page report is available now. Specifically for our scaffolding customers, we were able to deliver a more detailed report with extra checks for couplers. SCIA Engineer 20 is an extra step towards a full 64-bit version and delivers further productivity increase on several levels.
This was made possible in large parts thanks to our attention towards the voice of our customers and endless passion and devotion of all members of our Product and Development teams. I am proud that we were able, for a fourth year in a row, to develop the top three most voted items by our customers. So I want to thank all our customers and the whole SCIA team to make this possible.

SCIA Engineer 20 underlines SCIA’s mission to evolve its engineering software year after year, in order to allow structural engineers to achieve more, year after year.
